meeting #10 - December 20, 2012
Hey Everybody,
Second to last day before the break! It is time to start thinking about what we want to do when we come back to school in January. But first, a debriefing of the Hot Chocolate Kit Sale/Bake Sale last week at the basketball game and the Winter Concert: we ended up selling a little over $130. We still have a bunch of Hot Chocolate Kits left, so if you guys want, feel free to buy some. Since you are all members, you can get them for $2 instead of $3!
Here is the agenda:

meeting #8 - December 6, 2012
Hey guys, check out Maya's letter :)
Hi Everybody,
The holiday season is coming up and I think that we should do an event or activity besides the bake sale for measles. But apparently, the Sojourn group and the CARE club had the same idea and are both selling a type of candy gram… which is what we were planning to do. It wouldn’t be very original to do the same event, but there are still some different options we can choose from:
Option 1. This is my personal favorite- Hot Chocolate Kits! We could fill plastic bags with hot chocolate mix, marshmallows, and chocolate chips and tie the top with a red ribbon. We could sell these to students and teachers as small gifts or stocking stuffers. Making these bags would take some time though.
Option 2. Gingerbread House Contest- Students and teachers would pay a small amount of money to guess how many pieces of candy were used to make the house. The person with the closest guess wins a prize. However, I don’t know how we would get an impressive gingerbread house or make one. Then there would also be the issue of keeping track of who paid, or if multiple people guess the same number of candy.
Option 3. Another Bake Sale- I think bake sales are great, we can make a lot of money without spending a lot of money. But I think only doing bake sales during the holiday season is a little lame. I would suggest doing a bake sale along with another activity.
Option 4. Other Activity- If you have any ideas for events, now would be the time to speak up!
It takes time to plan activities so we need to know which activity/activities you are interested in! And these events will be fun if you get really into them!
Also, I have to make some corrections from last week’s letter. The Winter Blackout Dance is on January 12. We should have the fliers and tickets by this Saturday. And if you haven’t gotten a Volunteer Connection yet, it isn’t too late. You can still make one, you just won’t be able to get credit as an official Red Cross member for hours you got in the last few months.

Below is Maya Chan (co-president)'s letter for the week.
Hey Everybody,
It’s Maya (the other co-president besides Sarah). I know the other officers explained my situation to you guys during the last meeting, but here it is again for those who missed it:
In February, I am going to study abroad in China with seven other BHS students for 4 months. It is a great experience, but it is also a time commitment and, unfortunately, I can’t come to any of the BHS American Red Cross Club X-Block meetings. I am so sorry, but I promise you guys that I am working really hard outside of school to help the club run smoothly.
Anyways, every X-Block I am going to write a letter to the club about what is going to be covered during the meeting. Here is what you guys will discuss/do today:
Happy Thursday!
From, Maya Chan
(co-president)
We hope you had fun at the meeting, and if you would like to help sell Halloween Trick or Treat Bags during 1st or 2nd lunch next week, shoot us an email at [email protected].
